2012 FALL BONUS POINT RACE SERIES
Every year at Galletta's Backyard Speedway, our regular point season starts in the first race (usually the first Sunday in June) and concludes with the 200-Lap "Klassic Championship" race in either late-September or early-October. Any races after the Klassic are counted as Fall Bonus Point Challenge races. They are their own separate point series, but the points do count towards the Galletta's All-Time Points listings, that concludes at the end of the season annually. This season, we had three such events - a pre-Klassic shakedown (on 9/24/2012), a post-Klassic rained out race (on 10/13/2012), and the DS Humphreys Twin 35s (on 11/10/2012). All are listed below:
The Galletta's Karting Club Season 2012 - Volume #17 DVD:
As usual, almost every race at Galletta's has been recorded from mid-2005-and-up (along with every Klassic from 1998), and all of the footage is available at $5 per disc. This DVD includes all the Fall races, plus the 3rd camera angle (stationary start-finish line cam) of the Klassic 200 - lots of footage, and some good action. An additional disc - Volume #18: Bonus Footage, which includes unused material from the whole season (independent digital camera footage) is also available. What's on this one? See below:
9/24/2012: Ogie Narrates the Pre-Klassic Shakedown 30
One of the Fall races was before Klassic - not counted for regular points because only a few drivers showed, but it was needed it it to shake down two brand-new karts.
Ogie Stevens is a condescending, generally evil bastard. Narrating the race from the tower angle, he gets as abusive and hateful as ever. Still... it was pretty funny, kinda'. But don't tell him we said that.
It looked like Brian Galletta was going to win it in his brand-new #13. He broke - in fact, sheared his crankshaft, a first in our 17+ years of racing. Then, it looked like Eric Woolworth was going to win in his brand-new #78. a kart frame that sat on the side of the greenhouse for years, and finally was rebuilt and had a motor slapped on it. Eric was dominating until he got caught sleeping on a restart by Dave Spanfelner, but then Eric broke anyway. And speaking of Dave, he was looking like he may take it, too, until his kart started slowing badly, and he wrecked with two guys he brought out. So... *YAWN*.... it happened again. Matt Stevens came from last to first in the nearly-forgotten, always passed-over, dirty-looking Galletta's #6 kart. Ooh, that crafty lil' Matty-Joey!!!
9/24/2012 Pre-Klassic Shakedown 30 Finish: 1st. Matt Stevens (Galletta's Greenhouse #6) 2nd. Billy Truax (Galletta's Greenhouse #7) 3rd. Ron Ingison (Galletta's Greenhouse #9) 4th. Dave Spanfelner (DS Humphrey's #81) - DNF 5th. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #78) - DNF 6th. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta #13) - DNF |

10/6/2012: 17th Annual Championship 200
SATURDAY, October 6th, 2012: The 17th Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Club Championship 200 just went down. 14 karts, son.
This is NOT a Fall Bonus Point race, but since it is our big point finale, it's here for your viewing pleasure. Want to see results? Fine. Go see... HERE... NOW!
10/13/2012: Dash-Before-The-Rain 20
This race was kind of a stinker. After the Klassic, most of the competitors are burned out after a long, competitive, exhausting season. Not to mention the controversial finish of the prior weekend's Klassic left much drama to the point standings - as with an unknown finish, there was no conclusive champion. But even so, several drivers were ready for more - specifically 1st-season drivers. Problem: The weather did not cooperate, and not only did the already chilly race get rain-shortened (to about 20 laps), but the videotape accidentally got erased. The above snapshot is the only evidence we have that it even existed.
10/13/2012 Post-Klassic Rain-Shortened 25(?) Finish: 1st. Brian Galletta (Brian Galletta #13) 2nd. Matt Stevens (Galletta's Greenhouse #3) 3rd. Dave Spanfelner (DS Humphrey's #81) 4th. Melissa Stevens (SNF #80; Galletta's Greenhouse #4) 5th. Eric Woolworth (Woolworth #78) 6th. Mike Ledger (Brian Galletta #28) |

11/10/2012: 1st Annual D.S. Humphreys Twin-35s Fall Bonus Race
The first feature had some good battles with Dave Spanfelner, Eric Woolworth, and Brian Galletta taking shots at the lead, but Dave and Eric both broke and Brian Galletta was too fast for anyone else to deal with. This 1st feature became somewhat historic... it was the very 1st feature race at Galletta's that Matt entered without Chris that Matt did not win. This is the 2nd Fall race in a row that Eric Woolworth looked fast enough to win going away, but broke while up front.
11/10/2012 D.S. Humphrey's Twin-35 #1 Finish: |
---|
Assorted in-action shots show Brian Galletta, Matt Stevens, Eric Woolworth, and Joe Buske try to pass Dave Spanfelner.
The 2nd feature had a lot of bumper-to-bumper and wheel-to-wheel grinding between Dave Spanfelner, Eric Woolworth, Joe Buske, Brian Galletta, and Matt Stevens. However, although Eric came close to getting the pass, he broke and Dave held off everyone else for his 1st career feature win. Congrats, Dave!

And, since the Fall series is just a bonus point series to add into the All-Time points after the final race of the year, , we then go about counting the finishes straight up, with no bonus points earned for lead laps (unlike regular season and Klassic), we tally up the...

Google Maps - Directions:
Our club races every Summer Sunday afternoon starting the first Sunday in June and race on every weekend through October (once every Friday, Saturday or Sunday until the weather/track conditions/driver interest stops us) annually in back of Galletta's Greenhouse.
In addition to every Summer Sunday, we also often switch up to Friday or Saturday in the Fall, or have Monday or Tuesday rain-date nights depending on weather and driver attendance. We race qualifiers and a 45-Lap feature most weeks, but change up to occasional Twin-30s or the occasional 50+ Lapper. All races count for points and are tallied at the end of each season to determine the track champion. The season concludes with the 200-Lap Galletta's Karting Klassic in late-September or early-October. Our club is free to watch and free to join, and runs 100% off donations (gas, parts, lights, money, karts, paint, time, etc.) of the racers. We run primarily 5hp Briggs Flathead motors with shaved heads, select (and often) non-slapper race cams and stock "Fun Power" carbs. We allow other motor types to run with us, but not effect out points chase (you must have our kind of motor to count in our points race). You can race a Galletta's Team Kart for a nominal gas & parts donation, or race your own. We will help you either way, whether it be using a Galletta-kart or building one for yourself. We're not in this to make money and we're not in it to further a career in racing, so we don't have the goal of stomping all competitors at all costs like most pay tracks do. We are in this to have fun racing with friends and family being mini-superstars having fun on our lil' website and YouTube videos for as little money as humanly possible. Sound good? Join us!
"Like" our new Facebook Page
Also, because Facebook is confusing between "Groups", "Pages", "Places", and "Applications", we have yet another GKC Facebook page! Please join all of them!
Come on out and race! See why, despite with zero funds or publicity (other than our website, videos, and word of mouth), we put on the best races for the buck, period. See why occasional big track drivers over the years try it out and say that they have more fun racing our karts than their big expensive race cars (stress of doing well, money involved, cutthroat competition), and how since our karts are so highly equalized, that it's racing at it's purest form and without big dollar BS and politics. You will NOT be outspent or cheated against in our class, and you will not be screwed by cheaters. We oversee it all to ensure that will not happen, and the same cannot be said for pay tracks or big car tracks. If you are a cheat, stick with pay tracks, as we don't want your kind here. If you have the skill, you will be competing for wins. If you don't... well, enough said.
