Precipitation made for a fun, but yet rain-shortened event, and Matt Stevens took the checker when his win-starved brother Chris Stevens (AKA me) nailed a pothole in turn 3 and then broke down while leading late. Curses! The Feature was 16 karts, and six people had to be eliminated in the heats because we didn't have enough extra karts available. With more karts, we could have had A TWENTY-ONE kart race! Yikes! We've now had 46 different drivers race at our track this year with a couple of months of racing action to go, and that don't even count the OHV karts that race at Oswego with us! Awesome! We need more karts! Build 'em, find 'em and bring 'em 'em! And come to the Galletta's Klassic Championship Race in mid-September to make it the biggest race in Galletta's Racing Club History (Let's beat last year's 16 this year!)! 2007 Volume #11 DVD:
Contains the August 9th, 2007 Gas Stocker Kart races from Oswego Speedway, and the August 12th, 2007 races at Galletta's. 2 hours & 10 minutes.
Here is a preview of the contents in this disc:
Here's the starting lineup to the 5 kart Rookie Qualifier Heat #1, won by Russ Bartlett. George Russell also qualified. Buddy Cottom also qualified via time trial for the last Galletta's Backup, my own #5.
Here's a 5 kart Rookie Qualifier Heat #2, which was essentially a tie between Lil' Kenny Lindsey and Ryan Coleman, to which they both qualified for the feature.
All of the other rookies that didn't qualify did well (not too many wrecks and raced fairly clean), but we just don't have enough backup karts to rent out. If we can get some more (I know Ed Meynes has a few fast karts that may be for sale, and Gary Miller wants to sell his fast, feature-winning engine, and Ken Pitsley wants to sell his stepson Rob Jimenez's feature-winning & 3rd fastest 2006 Klassic Time Trial engine from last year), we can have some huge races! Inquire with Chris and Matt or the above noted people for details.
Here's a clip of Ryan Coleman flipping the #s9 after getting hit by Big Ken Lindsey in the 2nd heat.
Here's a shot from Heat #3, an 11 karts all piloted by experienced veteran drivers. This wound up being a fast and furious race filled with a lot of driving talent. One of the best heat races we've ever had here.
Kyle Reuter attempted passing Oscar Berry and took a nasty flip. Here is one of the two camera angles from the DVD.
Dick Dann got the checker in this heat. Believe it or not, Matt and Chris finished in the rear of the field, showing you just how competitive this race was and how difficult it is to win.
Starting lineup of the Feature Event that was supposed to go 45 but shortened to 35 as the race progressed and the track conditions deteriorated. The rain already started, but Galletta's Go-Kart Club races don't stop for a few raindrops, you sissies! We rule!
Chris Stevens (yours truly) came from the rear of the field after a wreck to pass Matt Stevens and Brian Bortel for the lead on lap 10. Chris half the lead until lap 22 (which this video clip here), where he hit a huge pothole in turn 3, which almost sent him flying off of the kart and damaged his drive-wheel, slowing him greatly and then breaking the chain a lap later.

AUGUST 14-15th UPDATE: Oscar Berry, one of our most regular members of the Galletta's Go-Karts Racing Club, suffered what was initially diagnosed as a mild heart attack and had surgery yesterday. Apparently, everything checked out well, and it was just acid reflux, his heart appears to be fine. Our prayers, thoughts, and well-wishes are all with Oscar, and we hope he will make a speedy recovery. God bless. And now unto next week's race:
