8/2007 UPDATE: However, because in August 2007, Gary temporarily quit racing and angrily requested that his name be removed from the website, his forfeited win now goes to 2nd-place Chris Stevens! Hooray! As a joke, I made this alternate version of Gary's win, with his name and face removed, even from an alternate version of his bio! Gary's real driver profile and spoof driver profile versions!:
G*** M***** S*. (posing with his #1 fan & son, C**** M*****) won an exciting 45-Lap opening event consisting of fifteen karts! G***'s new #24, his former backup frame, was rebuilt by Dick Dann, the motor was purchased off eBay by Chris Stevens and tuned-up by Matt Stevens. The original race-time of 6:30pm was delayed nearly two hours due to a late afternoon downpour that forced us to work on drying the track, furthered by a blowout in the audio setup in the recording tower. Thanks to everybody who helped and were patient with the delay.
Qualifying Heats:
Here are snapshots from the 2-hour, 2-camera angle DVD. The first heat was utterly dominated by Jason Mills in the Maynes #83. Starting on the pole due to his 2006 inverted PPR handicap position, he pulled away and was never challenged once due to a slick track and his slick driving.
Multi-Time Defending Track Champion Matt Stevens took the second heat win in his Galletta's Greenhouse Silver Bullet #33 by driving under Oscar Berry and Dick Dann as they crashed together while battling for the lead. However, with three 1st-time rookies in the race, it was cluttered with a few accidents. For example, 1st-time rookie driver William Hardy Jr. drove unsafely slow and zigzagged all over the track. While being lapped, he collected Kyle Reuter, G*** M*****, and Oscar Berry. But in an eerie coincidence, the same accident in the 2nd heat was almost identically repeated in the Feature event, with Hardy (being lapped after one green lap), again collected Kyle Reuter in the very same spot in turn four and barely avoided collecting Chris Stevens. This accident has led to another new rookie rule, which I shall elaborate more on below.*
THE 1st FEATURE of 2007: Jason Mills voluntarily relinquished his handicap starting pole position because he wanted a challenge and started in last. Oscar Berry then was able to lead the first three laps until he drove into the garden and retired with mechanical problems.
Dick Dann then took over in his potent #86 kart and slowly pulled away from the field, leading laps four through twenty-four before he and then 2nd place driver Matt Stevens spun and tangled together in turns three and four and had to go to the rear. The race lead was then inherited by G*** M***** (in his new #24 rebuilt by Dick Dan) and followed by Wesley "Ogre" Stevens (in his Galletta's Greenhouse #4). Ogre then spun out and hit the inside wall in turn two, which then led to a torrid, twenty-two lap battle for the lead with Chris Stevens (in his Galletta's Greenhouse/ChrusherComix/Emperor Palpatine/San Antonio Spurs/NY Jets #8) following him closely and showing a tire several times. Fast Freddy Collins dropped out due to a still healing broken hip (and he brought out too many cautions), Jason Mills dropped out due to a blown tire, and...
Ed Maynes (in the Team Maynes #9) broke a tie-rod and took a while ride off of turn four and crashed into a greenhouse! Seriously, Ed?
All four rookie/novices were disqualified for breaking the new "3-cautions-and-you're-out" rule, and from now on, novices will now race their own "Rookie Race" in order to see if they qualify to race with the veterans.*
For the final five laps, G*** led a near bumper-to-bumper freight train including Chris Stevens, Matt Stevens, Wesley Ogre Stevens, Dick Dann, and Nick Dann. Oddly, the race was supposed to be 40 laps, but upon reviewing the DVD, the lap counters accidentally missed an extra five green laps, probably due to the numerous rookie-caused cautions breaking their concentration (it wasn't their fault; it can get confusing at times when the leaders make it to the finish line around the same time that a newbie spins out in the rear). We are always looking for additional volunteers to operate flags, enforce rules, and document race leaders and final positioning, because we didn't have enough this race. Please visit this message board thread, where we are posting more photos and captions. The final order:

* = RULES UPDATE: Due to 1st-time rookies creating all kinds of accidents and problems (for years now), we have now implemented a new "Rookie Race" which will be like a B-Main and would consist of first-timers and accident-prone novices (or newbies if you will). Any rookies who complete the race without being a hazard to themselves or other drivers by spinning or wrecking will be allowed in to the Feature event. They will be judged by the track officials and veteran drivers. If every rookie in the race causes three cautions, the race will end and no winner will be declared, nor will they qualify for the feature event.
