Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Club, located in Oswego, NY, is a go-kart racing club that specializes on racing as professionally as we can for as economically as possible. In the early 1990s, we developed a style of kart racing that is different, but no less competitive than any national karting organization. Our biggest difference is affordability. Our club is free to join and race in, and the only thing anybody pays for is gas and parts. We are the largest and longest-running dirt karting class in the local area, as we were founded in the early 1990s and our average feature is 45-Laps usually consisting of 10-15 karts, with a 200-Lap "Klassic" Championship at Summer's end deciding an Annual Points Champion. We race homemade 1-Wheel-Drive racing karts that can race on professional karting tracks and backyard speedways alike. We have karts rebuilt from used racing chassis, used yard karts and some built from scratch. We have ONE class to ensure a true overall track champion, and not have several smaller classes of divisional champions with no clear winner. We race used 5hp Briggs Flathead motors fueled by pump gas, sped-up by hand-shaved heads and select racing cams, and regulated by stock Fun Power-type carburetors instead of expensive prefabricated 2-WD chassis powered by high-priced methanol-fueled motors. On our own backyard oval speedway, we turn clockwise with our top speeds approximately 45-50MPH. Although we all run in the same division, in addition to a minimum weight requirement, we have something unique to our inclusive class -- a weight-to-power-allowance scale to allow heavier drivers more horsepower via stronger racing cams and more powerful gear ratios, a system proven to be successful as we have the tightest competition and most varied winner's circle locally over the last few years. This way our one class is bigger than the higher-priced karting classes, because heavier and lighter drivers can race equally and having the same chance of winning as the next guy. Racing experience, starting position, and a little bit of luck usually decides the outcome, and money and kart price play no role. To ensure this, we have an expert motor builder -- club co-founder Matt Stevens - who oversees that all of the motors are legal, equalized, and competitive, and does so for no cost - just to have people to race with! Join us and find out what many people, including semi-pro drivers from local racetracks say - we have the most fun and spend the least money of likely any competitive motorsport class in the world! The club races every Sunday afternoon all summer starting on the first Sunday in June annually in back of Galletta's Greenhouse and running every weekend until the weather stops us in the Fall. We race qualifiers and a 45-Lap feature most weeks, but change up to occasional Twin-30s or the occasional 55-Lapper. All races count for points and are tallied at the end of each season to determine the track champion. The season concludes with the 200-Lap Galletta's Karting Klassic in late-September or early-October. Our club is free to watch and free to join, and runs 100% off donations of the racers. You can race a Galletta's Team Kart for a nominal gas & parts donation, or race your own. We will help you either way, whether it be using a Galletta-kart or building one for yourself. We're not in this to make money and we're not in it to further a career in racing. We are in this to have fun racing with friends and family and be mini-superstars on our lil' website for as little money as humanly possible. And can your $1,000-$7,000 methanol racing kart go over 20 miles reaching speeds between 30-50MPH per lap in one race on one tank of pump gas? No? Well, we can. Join us! Enjoy the site!

9/4/2011: Post-Oswego Speedway Classic 200 - Labor Day 45

Tim Galletta gets the win by passing his son coming out of turn 4 on the last lap!

Labor Day Extermination 45SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th, 2011: In honor of the Oswego Speedway's Supermodified Classic 200 -a race which we shaped our own karting club's season and 200-lap "Klassic" championship after - we originally planned to race on Labor Day Monday. However, due to the Oswego Classic being moved up three hours to avoid rain, only getting caught in a few minute shower, and seeing that we had a small window before more rain came in later, we tried to race Sunday after Classic knowing that Sunday night and Monday could very well rain-out our race. Kenny Lindsley III flew off the track while leading most of the show, which set up Justin Galletta to lead late. But on turn 4, Justin's clutch teeth literally gave out on the spot and his father Tim Galletta took the Labor Day 45-Lapper! (Oddly, a bit of a mirror image of Otto Sitterly passing his teammate on the last turn to win the Oswego Classic 200). Our own 16th Annual Galletta's Greenhouse Karting Klassic 200-lapper (that's right, not a 40-50 Lapper, that's our regular weekly race, not a championship) will be at either the end of September or the start of October. Racers - please help us plan ahead and lock down a good date by giving us dates that you can and cannot do. Thanks! Sory that the pics, descriptions, results & points took so long (my new work schedule has put me WAYY behind... sorry!). Check back soon for videos!

Kenny was dominant early on, and slowly pulled away from the rest of the pack. Oddly enough, his weight bar came off and took out Joe Sereno's Galletta's #5 kart's drive system via bending the drive wheel axle, which just piles on more and more kart changes and DNFs for poor ol' Joe!

Kenny led until he flew off the track in turn 3 while leading. He then crashed into the tower's protective tire walls while trying to make his way back up through the field attempting to pass both Matt and Chris on the outside in successive laps. He almost did, but flat out ran out of room!

The racing was pretty much this close for most of the way. On a big track, that's saying a lot. Don't you wish all races were this close? Haha, and we spend just a few hundred dollars to build these things that are so competitive! Maybe that's why we aren't the most popular amongst local race fan folk?

So Justin had the lead on lap 44 in turn 4. But the clutch sprocket on the #7 burned out literally in turn 4, and lost two positions as he glided to a 3rd place finish, getting passed by his father for the win. But Justin wasn't the only one to have a mechanical problem lose him positions on the last lap...

Here is another angle of the same deal. Justin raises his hand in frustration as his father burns by him for a last second win. At the same exact time, Matt Stevens, who made his way up to 4th by trapping his brother Chris on his wife Melissa with a couple laps to go, broke a throttle cable in turn 3, and like Justin also glided to a finish, losing two positions before reaching the finish line (pushing his kart along by hand). A crazy end to a good all-around race.

Matt believes that both problems would have been prevented if he had more time before the race to replace the clutch sprocket on the #7 and the throttle cable on the #3. But due to us rushing to get a race in after the Oswego Speedway Classic 200 and before rain set in was essentially the reason why both Justin and Matt lost two postions each on the last lap and why Justin narrowly missed getting his 2nd career feature win, while his father aquired his 3rd on 2011 alone. Oh, and Timmy gloated about his triumph on facebook during the next few days...

Next race should be Friday or Sunday, but please check back. After Labor Day, our schedule is more adjustable and less predictable, but we try to race Fridays or Saturdays over Sundays (NFL Football).

Ogie apparently got a hold of a camera a couple days after the race and did an interview.

John J. Galletta Memorial KartwayGalletta's Backyard Go-Kart Speedway is a free-to-race-on and free-to-watch 0.133887 mile dirt oval with 20-degree banked turns. It is located behind Galletta's Greenhouse in Oswego, NY, and can be seen from outer space! The single-wheel-drive gasoline-fueled flathead motor karts take the track between 15-17 seconds per lap which averages over 30 mph (approximately 45-50 mph top speed in the straights). Our speeds are comparable to alcohol/methanol-fueled karts that cost 8 times as much because we use mostly homemade or rebuilt go-karts and gas on a large track; leading to more karts, more competition, and more fun. Our class is usually the largest and most competitive in the area. Thanks to Google Earth for this Spring 2006 photo. Our karting club's home track is located in back of:
