THE 2002 GALLETTA'S BOX STOCK GAS KARTING LEAGUE SEASON
SNAPSHOT PREVIEWS from the 2002 Galletta's Klassic (see below DVD) :
The opening laps show a tough, competitive, close event. From 1990-2004, All 100% Box-Stock 5hp flatheads that ruin on gas, no racing modifications.
Matt, Chris, and Wes Stevens (the three vets against several rookies) time trialed the top three. Galletta's was home to the only yard karting league in the world that kept points standings.
Rookies Tom Culeton, DJ Barnes, Dan Lupa, Dan Allnut, and Bryan Hayes in the '02 Galletta's Klassic!
Tom Culeton however, was proving to be the best visiting driver at Galletta's SuperYard Karting Speedway to date, as he won two events and led the Klassic early in 2002. Here he was challenging Chris Stevens early. This Klassic Chris drove the Galletta's #1, in order to try and change the negative momentum he was having in the Galletta's #5. Although time-trialing and leading a large portion of the event early, he had to go to the rear for a broken pull-cord on a restart (twice in the same Klassic; so no excuses from people who break them and have to go to the rear - Chris lost a Klassic lead from that), and could not make it up to the front again, then lost a drive wheel.
Ironically, Dan Lupa drove Chris' #5 and completed every lap. Matt was near unstoppable, again with his fade-to-the-rear-and-then-come-on-strong-in-the-end strategy. Chris hopped into the abandoned #0 late and nearly tracked down Matt for the win. DJ Barnes, although he started slowly, also was a great competitor, especially as the season progressed. His strongest race was in fact the Klassic, where he drove the Galletta's #7 very strong until it broke down late. Here were the two racing an also improving Dan Alnutt.
More on 2002: Tom Culeton, DJ Barnes, Dan and Chris Lupa, Dan Alnutt and friends joined us in 2002. Tommy invented a new kind of accident: the Tommy-Gun-Fast-Flip, where he violently and quickly flipped the Galletta's #2 several times that year and completely bent the frame out of its original form. Culeton also became our greatest visiting driver to date by winning 2 races in his rookie campaign and being a top competitor every race. Tom and friends raced great all year, and thus created our greatest season to that date, but mysteriously stopped the next year, again leaving the trio to groom new competition. This season is the one where we dramatically decreased our kart breakdowns, simply by using large drivewheel tires and thicker gauged drivewheel chain. Matt snapped Chris' 3-year Klassic and Track Championship winning streak here. Matt was also so dominant, that he took a race off and still won the points standings.

<-2001 Season | 2003 Season->
The Galletta's Go-Karting Club was founded by brothers Matt and Chris Stevens in the early 1990s when they modified yard karts for racing purposes. They are the inventors of "clockwise 5hp flathead gas stocker kart" racing, and have a 13-kart race team that includes several backup karts available to be rented and raced at both Galletta's and Oswego Speedway all summer. Invented with specifically "gas stock 5hp motor" rules so that a person doesn't have to spend thousands of dollars to race in extremely competitive racing events, the class grows in talent and competition every single year. Join us by building your own kart for around $200-500, or rent one of our team karts on two tracks all Summer & Fall in Oswego, NY!
The Oswego Gas Stocker Kart Club races at Galletta's Greenhouse Kartway & Oswego Speedway Kartway.
Due to the fact that the karts are so affordable and the oldest veterans have been racing for nearly two decades, it is one of the most difficult karting divisions to win at, but yet you can be instantly competitive for just a couple hundred dollars IF you're a good driver. You can't outspend your opponent due to our gas-powered stock-only rule, so you must out-race them and out-setup them. In fact, nobody has ever defeated Matt & Chris in the open challenge: race a stock 5hp flathead and stop them from scoring 1st & 2nd in a points season. Though hundreds of people have tried in hundreds of races since the early 1990s, Chris and Matt have scored 1 & 2 every year. But it's not just them you have to race. Our regular drivers are all talented and experienced. You can prove your skills against the winningest karters in the local area AND you won't even have to spend a lot of money to get started! We dare you to try! Make your own or rent one of our racing team karts. Sound like fun? Read on, explore the website, and join us!
