PANSIES & VIOLAS
Pansies, and their cousins the violas and violets, are one of the most popular and recognizable cool weather
annuals. However, no breeds tolerate heat very well. Although
delicate, they are surprisingly hardy, and many are surprised to
hear that their the flowers are edible.
Pansies are striking cool weather flowers with
almost heart-shaped, overlapping petals in bright colors with
oftentimes face-like center markings. The names ‘pansy’ and ‘viola’
are often interchangeable to many gardeners, and often close enough
so that only the
serious gardener or botanist cares all that much about the
