Announcement: Please do not forget to come to the Thursday, August 30th, 2007 Oswego Speedway Classic WeekendDirt Oval show. Several Galletta's Go-Karts and drivers will be racing in the Yard Kart Classic, and at least one of our club members, Kyle Reuter, will also be racing a methanol kart, running two classes if possible! Admission for spectators is free! Come see us battle for and trophies and Classic Weekend tickets for the top three finishers in all classes. Again, the yard kart class that we run is Gas-only, no more than 5hp-8hp motor, and racing slicks are highly recommended (mandatory on your drive-wheel side tires). Our next race at Galletta's may be Monday afternoon. We need input from all the drivers, so contact us. Now, here is the...
Galletta's 2007 Race #13 : 8/26/2007 45-Lapper: On August 26th, 2007, Chris "ChrusherComix" Stevens wins his 2nd feature of the year in his Galletta's #8, a 45-lap, 12-kart event. But the motor has won 2 straight races, as last week Kyle Reuter won with it on the Galletta's #5! Chris thanks his brother Matt and Melissa Gabel for their diligent work on the track and karts during the week. "The track held up for me this week. The last two, a pothole in turn three was my worst enemy as Matt and Kyle each got me back there while leading two weeks straight!" he said.
Ken Lindsley Sr. jumped Fred on the 1st lap and held on for the 1st Heat win. Ken was followed by Matt Stevens, Ogre Stevens, Kyle Reuter, Fred, and Buddy Cottom.
Ken Lindsley Jr. held off a charging Chris Stevens for the 2nd Heat win after Chris' left front tire popped brushing against Kenny. Ken was followed by Mike Howell, Brian Bortel, and Melissa Gabel. Chris and Ryan Coleman didn't finish the race, but were repaired for the feature.
The Feature started off with a bang, yet again. Pole sitter Fred Collins had no luck yet again, as he was taken out from behind by rookie Kenny Lindsley Jr., after Kenny used Ryan Coleman as a ramp and crashed into Fred. This set off a chain reaction of the other drivers scattering around and off the track, a bit of great driving by all because nobody got hit after the initial incident! Observe!
An extremely scary accident took place early on when Wesley Ogre Stevens, Kyle, Matt, and Chris were battling in the middle of the field, side-by-side, 2-rows-deep. When Ogre and Kyle brushed wheels down the front stretch, it sent Kyle into Matt and then they both crashed extremely hard into Fred Collins, who had retired and nonsensically parked in the interior grass just barely off of the track. The crash was horrific, as Matt, Kyle and Fred all flipped over each other, but wouldn't have even been a footnote if someone wasn't parked in the interior of the track. This action is forbidden. A retired kart must park in the garage area, deep in the middle of the track, or the caution must come out. Luckily, thank God, they were all OK other than some bumps, scrapes and bruises.
Here it is again, early on in the race. Wesley Ogre Stevens, Kyle Reuter, Matt Stevens, and Chris Stevens raced side-by-side in the middle of the pack. When a drifting Ogre and charging Kyle brushed tires, it sent Kyle careening into Matt, and they both collided with Fred Collins, who retired from the race and parked in the middle of the track. The crash is terrible, and probably the worst crash in our 17-year history, but fortunately nobody got hurt other than bumps and bruises.
The rookies all raced very well, and they are probably ready to lose "rookie" status. Other than a few mishaps, they all raced very well. It was not easy for the veterans to move through the field. However, since Wesley Ogre Stevens quit rather than be put to the rear for his involvement in the crash from hell, Chris Stevens was able to take the lead around the midway point. Eventually, Matt Stevens was able to recover from his terrible crash to take 2nd. Now, let us observe the...
Galletta's 8/26/2007 45-Lapper - Final Order Of Finish:
